 DIYbioNYC taking off
I had the privilege of attending sessions of the recently started DIYbio NYC. It's a small group of people from variety of backgrounds, and we're having a lot of fun. The official blog is http://diybionyc.blogspot.com/ and there's also a youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/DIYbioNYCWe are always looking for more people to join up. Anyone here in the nyc area?

I noticed on the blog that you guys are looking into getting a hacker space going. This is something I would like to look into sometime down the road. How close are you all to finding an available space?

 Re: DIYbioNYC taking off
Yes, we're in discussions with someone to provide us some lab space starting this fall. It looks very promising. Also, we are going ahead with some other activities. We will be hosting a hands-on DNA extraction event at Conflux 2009 in NYC, which describes itself as "the annual New York festival for contemporary psychogeography, the investigation of everyday urban life through emerging artistic, technological and social practice. At Conflux, visual and sound artists, writers, urban adventurers and the public gather for four days to explore their urban environment."
I guess we qualify as "urban adventurers"...

Hi urban adventurer
I have to agree with the previous speaker. It seems like a good idea to incorporate and get a space. From the videos you look like good crowd too.
Now I'm a bit curious of your ideas after GFP E.coli and gel electrophoresis...
Good to see you and welcome ; )
