Post Fluorescent Black
Hi, I came across a new Biopunk graphic novel previewed in this month's Heavy Metal Magazine called Fluorescent Black. It's by Matt Wilson and an excellent Biopunk read.

I have to say I love the artwork. And I was always a big fan of Heavy Metal(except for the terrible movie FAKK2 and the game that came with it). Going to check check this comic out. To me the biopunk future doesn't look so bleak though. It looks more like the world of Moebius, strange and wonderful, lah. Maybe Heavy Metal magazine is the place to look for it. They are good at the weird.

This looks really cool, will this be released as a trade paperback? It also looks like this has been optioned (link) for a movie.

Edit: The first part of this story is in Heavy Metal September 2008. You can order back issues off their site if interested. Looking forward to the move. BTW, has anyone heard anything on The Gene Generation?

Just in case anyone's still interested in this story, the second half of Fluorescent Black was (finally) released in the Sept 2009 issue of Heavy Metal. I know I'll be picking up a copy.

I am studying that particular thing and I am from Singapore,......

The comic isn't a far leap in imagination, if you seen the shit that has been going on inside Biopolis.

Singapore doesn't have a open society neither do Malaysia, it would be prefered that the Americans have it, if the Jesus freaks doesn't get in the way.

They should do a prequel on the whats happening now I could help,....

Heh, I didn't know there actually is a Biopolis. I had heard of Cyberjaya in Malaysia though.

Maybe there is a reason flourecent black takes place in Singapore. Maybe the signifying culture of the biotechnology era will be Asian.

It's like you say. Americans have their religion, so their politicians have to cater to voters imaginary friends. At the same time huge countries like China and India are making science a national priority. They are number two so they try harder.

When I look at pictures of European and American lab groups it seems Asians are overrepresented in bioscience compared to other fields(with the exception of computer science maybe).

...so, what goes on in Biopolis?

Some cool stuff some scary stuff, I am taking a break both of necessity and because of regulations, We used to smoke cigerettes right nexts to tanks of glowing zebra fishes in polytechnic, so what goes on in BioPolis is definitely more hard core, they have a pal called fusionpolis next door, so you can guess what happens there, LindenLab, Yes people the same fellas that makes secondlife, moved in. The singapore govertment always have a reputation for being a nanny state, so there was some scary crackdown like the shit you see in florescent black and the slang and scenes are quite accurate, except more singaporeans live in Housing developement block sort of like a clean up projects, and most of them are quite ignorant of what's happening downtown.

There is a lot of art but they tend to appear in the same sense of how the French have very self-concious Grand Project, which only serve to piss off the locals even more, the idea of open source biology would be laughable here not to say people won't try,... after all some lucky punk by the name of sim wong hoo invented the sound card during the Electronic revolution against all odds.

Though now I am in melbourne I hate to see that the Singapore govertment stance end up like that of Australia, mired in political quiremire, unable to move forward,

running to the private sector is only viable in the states I am afriad, everywhere else is too fucked up themselves.

Though the german and the french would diegn to try synthetic biology, they want to avoid public notice, because frankly our prof. don't fucking trust them.
