Post Group Wide Projects
I'm really new here. But I enjoy Biology in the way that keeps me very attached to it. And one thing I'd like to propose to all you garage biohackers is it: As the topic title implies,a group project.

Toss ideas out, what should this group try to strive for as a project? Do you even want to undertake a co-operative project?

My idea would be to create a theoretical enzyme that could dissolve the tar from cigarette smoke left in the lungs.

Discuss.

Hey there,

One of the group projects that I have been working on is the biohacking toolkit at http://biohack.sf.net/ and http://heybryan.org/exp.html -- the main idea at the moment is to make a project that allows a biologically replicable kit of everything you need in order to modify cells, do genetic engineering, and so on. While specific projects (like getting rid of lungcancer buildups via antibodies, aptamers, or other chemical agents) are incredibly awesome, that's where I'm focusing attention on.

Video describing how to get going: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXKbzbeipmI (within 5 minutes if you're on linux, if you're on Windows that might take longer, but look at the links in the 'more info' part, particularly the one about Windows). Ah, here's the video (thanks Splicer):

Sinthetik: Sounds like a good idea. I'm kind of interested in bioluminescence.
I've been glancing at Vibrio fischeri stuff. One of my long term goals is to see if I can isolate the luciferase gene from it.

kanzure: That's cool, I will be 'gitting' this later today (haha i'm hilarious). Are you collecting general information or are you eventually focusing on a specific area?
