I'm A newbie to this hobby, although I've been half-heartedly researching dna and vice-versa for years I've never really had a chance to get deeply involved. I've just recently heard of biohacking as a noted hobby , actually, and I'd like to obtain further information on biohacking and such. If anyone has any links to fairly extensive explanations of encompassed material, they would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

There's a good list of in the links section. Also check out this primer on synthetic biology. Probably the best place to get resources is the library (imho). To talk to people, there is the diybio.org mailing list. Also irc, but I can't currently remember the channels. irc.freenet.net though.

I sometimes feel there is almost too much information out there. The problem becomes information overload, it's difficult to know where to begin. I agree with ralloc45. The primer and the video lectures are the way to get started.

I completely agree with this, it's almost frustrating. I just started kind of glazing over everything. Eventually, I began to get a sense of specific things that interested me and possible starting point for those interests.

As far as simple project guides, I would check Openwetware and Protocol Online.

I strongly agree. There are so many projects and protocols out there, that you get confused where to start. And even if you find something interesting, you can find it in another source with different results or something, and it messes up everything...
