 Obamas inaugural address
So, I'm a sucker for a good speech. So I listened to Obamas inaugural address, and well.... brilliant as usual. I was reading it again today. And I know it's written so that everyone feels he is talking to them. That here is something for everybody in it. But there were two sentences that have stuck like a nail to my head: "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers." and
"We will restore science to its rightful place."
Now I'm sure if I was religious I would find other sentences that spoke to me. And interpret the ones above differently. But I'm not and I choose to think he meant what I would mean if I said the same..
And that this guy is one of us...
And that the religious nuttery in politics freaks him out a bit too.

 Re: Obamas inaugural address
Amen. It's about time the president includes non-believers in such a statement. It seems like in the past 8 years atheism has been treated by politicians as controversial at best (how absurd). This could be reflective of our culture pushing further into secularism. I think the reason atheists tend to get ignored by politicians is that at the end of the day they will say what will keep them in power, and believers are more offended by non-believers than vice versa.

 Re: Obamas inaugural address
We havn't had an athiest or a libertarian as the commander and chief and to me thats absurd. Im just alittle tired of left-right politics. But that stament "and non-believers" made me feel better because it acknowledge the athiest's and the Irreligious.
