Potential biotechnical production system for THC
A VERY interesting Japanese study from the Journal of Biological Chemistry points out that CBGA is easy to synthesize, and that it can be converted into THCA, which is readily decarboxylized to THC by heating.
Another intriguing possibility is the cloning of THCAS, the gene that controls marijuana psychoactivity. If that gene could be isolated and implanted into fast-growing, ubiquitous plants with few toxic components, THC producing plants could then be grown in large amounts without the need for expensive covert indoor setups. This would take the medical marijuana movement worldwide in a matter of months.
