So... I was watching the last Rocketboom and it was about the singularity.

I'm fine with the singularity, computers smarter than us is probably waiting to happen... everyone gets it, who disagrees?

What I don't get is the amount of publicity Kurzweil & co is drawing from this. It seems to me the guy can rip any claim he wants from his ass and if the idea involves the word 'singularity' no one asks for further explanation.

He has managed to get a cult of Kurzweil going just around this concept. Kurzweil will stay ahead of the life expectancy curve... in a kind of reverse christian cult; The founder will live forever but his followers will be defrosted and resurrected in paradise where all disease is abolished.

And then there is the singularity university where the specially chosen learn to lead from the holy book 'The singularity is near' written by the living prophet himself.

Doesn't this look cultish to you?
