 The Biobricks blots binderIt looks like the BioBricks DNA blots binder is on it's way to be commercially available. An OpenWetWare offshoot startup called Ginkgo BioWorks is going to manufacture and sell it.

Ginkgo aims to sell these standardized genetic parts dried onto sheets of paper to big companies that want to make new drugs, plastics and petroleum replacements. Genetic technology has moved astonishingly quickly from the ivory tower to a three-ring binder paper sheet. Its democratization is here. If Ginkgo hadn't done this, someone else would have. Re: The Biobricks blots binder Thats awesome! I wonder how long it will be before they begin to sell these. I didn't see any information on ordering them. I also wonder if they will be available to the general public or just businesses.

Re: The Biobricks blots binder I read that Forbes article as well, from a link in R.Vidal's openwetware blog. I just can't wait for them to be able to release it... Heck, I want to help them out in some way if I could, if only it wasn't for my crippling ignorance of the field in general...
Anyway, what we'll be needing soon would be local chapters of synthetic biology meetups that can form projects and introduce people to the methodology and tools of synthetic biology... And possibly some sort of off-the-shelf tutorial, from O'Reilley or wikiversity. The article and related collection on the Forbes webpage is well worth a read. Re: The Biobricks blots binder Everybody go check out the site, they've added a BioBrick Assembly Kit for purchase ($235.00 and only ships in the U.S. though)
